Speech and Language Therapist Assessments
A Speech and Language Therapy assessment at Live to Learn Integrated Assessments is designed to build a clear and meaningful picture of how a child or young person communicates in real life. Using a neuro-affirmative lens, the process recognises that there is no single “right” way to communicate. Instead, it values individual communication styles and focuses on understanding how a young person shares ideas, makes sense of language, connects with others, and expresses their needs across different environments.
If a young person is diagnosed as autistic, we would always recommend a Speech and Language Therapy assessment, as the clinical diagnostic criteria is heavily rooted in social and communication differences and needs.

Our process
The assessment looks at areas such as understanding spoken language, using words and sentences, speech sound development, and social interaction. It also considers how communication is influenced by context, relationships, sensory preferences, emotional regulation, and confidence. The process may involve structured activities, play-based interaction, conversation, and collaboration with parents, carers, and educational staff to ensure that the picture formed is accurate, balanced, and grounded in everyday experience.
After the Assessment
After the assessment, families receive a detailed report that translates findings into practical, accessible guidance. Recommendations are tailored to the individual and may include strategies to support comprehension, develop expressive skills, scaffold social communication, or adapt the environment to reduce barriers. The emphasis is on enabling authentic self-expression, improving access to learning, and strengthening connection with others in ways that feel supportive and respectful of the young person’s identity.
Our Speech and Language assessments are inclusive of an Education Consultant’s input, with regards to the format of the ‘strengths’, ‘needs’, ‘outcomes’ and ‘provisions’, ensuring the report is easily transferable and applicable within education settings.

Working With Families and Professionals
“The team worked together seamlessly and we felt supported throughout. It never felt rushed or impersonal. The focus on our child’s strengths as well as their needs was reassuring, and the outcomes have been genuinely helpful in moving forward.”
“The assessment and report from Live to Learn were exceptionally clear and practical. The recommendations were specific, realistic, and easy to translate into provision within school. Having the educational context so carefully considered made a real difference.”
“From the very beginning, the process felt thoughtful and well coordinated. The assessment was thorough, but what stood out most was how clearly everything was explained. The report gave us real clarity and helped us understand not just the diagnosis, but what support would actually help our child in school and day-to-day life.”
