Access Arrangement Assessments

An Access Arrangement assessment determines whether a learner requires specific adjustments for formal examinations and assessments, such as extra time, a reader, a scribe, or the use of assistive technology. The assessment follows the Joint Council for Qualifications (JCQ) guidelines and is designed to ensure that the arrangements put in place accurately reflect the learner’s normal way of working.

Our process

The assessment involves standardised testing of areas such as reading speed, reading comprehension, writing speed, and spelling, alongside consideration of the learner’s educational history, any existing diagnoses, and current support. Information is gathered from the learner, their parents or carers, and their educational setting to build a full picture of need.

After the Assessment

Following the assessment, a detailed report is produced that outlines the learner’s scores and how they relate to the JCQ criteria for access arrangements. Where the evidence supports it, specific recommendations for exam adjustments are clearly stated. The report is formatted to support the school or college’s application process.

Working With Families and Professionals

“The team worked together seamlessly and we felt supported throughout. It never felt rushed or impersonal. The focus on our child’s strengths as well as their needs was reassuring, and the outcomes have been genuinely helpful in moving forward.”

“The assessment and report from Live to Learn were exceptionally clear and practical. The recommendations were specific, realistic, and easy to translate into provision within school. Having the educational context so carefully considered made a real difference.”

“From the very beginning, the process felt thoughtful and well coordinated. The assessment was thorough, but what stood out most was how clearly everything was explained. The report gave us real clarity and helped us understand not just the diagnosis, but what support would actually help our child in school and day-to-day life.”
