Occupational Therapist Assessments
An Occupational Therapy assessment at Live to Learn Integrated Assessments is a holistic, neuro-affirmative evaluation designed to understand how a child or young person engages with their daily life, learning environment, and wider world. Rooted in a strengths-based approach, the assessment recognises neurodiversity as a natural and valuable part of human variation. The process aims to understand an individual’s unique sensory profile, regulation patterns, functional skills, and environmental needs so that meaningful, practical and life-changing support can be put in place. We specialise in sensory integration and trauma-informed practice, providing a deep understanding of how sensory processing differences and lived experiences of stress or trauma can impact participation, emotional regulation, behaviour, and learning.

Our process
Our assessment process is compassionate, collaborative, and attuned to each young person’s individual story, ensuring they feel safe, heard and respected throughout the process.
The assessment typically includes detailed information gathering — prior to an appointment — through a SAAP questionnaire; alongside using in-person structured observations, standardised and non-standardised assessment tools and further information gathering from alternative settings, if required. An Occupational Therapy assessment explores areas such as sensory processing, motor coordination, self-care skills, emotional regulation, attention, and participation in everyday activities. Particular attention is given to identifying both strengths and areas where environmental adaptations or targeted strategies may reduce overwhelm and increase confidence and independence.
If a young person is diagnosed as autistic, we would always recommend an Occupational Therapy assessment.
After the Assessment
Following the assessment, families will receive a comprehensive report outlining clear, practical, and personalised recommendations. These may include sensory strategies, environmental adjustments, therapeutic input, and guidance for supporting regulation and engagement across home and within education provisions. The overall aim is to empower the young person, their family, and their educational team with a deeper understanding and a shared plan that supports wellbeing, access to learning, and positive participation in daily life.
Our Occupational Therapy assessments are inclusive of an Education Consultant’s input, with regards to the format of the ‘strengths’, ‘needs’, ‘outcomes’ and ‘provisions’, ensuring the report is easily transferable and applicable within education settings.

Working With Families and Professionals
“The team worked together seamlessly and we felt supported throughout. It never felt rushed or impersonal. The focus on our child’s strengths as well as their needs was reassuring, and the outcomes have been genuinely helpful in moving forward.”
“The assessment and report from Live to Learn were exceptionally clear and practical. The recommendations were specific, realistic, and easy to translate into provision within school. Having the educational context so carefully considered made a real difference.”
“From the very beginning, the process felt thoughtful and well coordinated. The assessment was thorough, but what stood out most was how clearly everything was explained. The report gave us real clarity and helped us understand not just the diagnosis, but what support would actually help our child in school and day-to-day life.”
