Cognition and Learning Baseline Assessment (DPORT)
A Cognition and Learning Baseline assessment, using the Diagnostic Profile of Reading Types (DPORT), provides a detailed snapshot of a child or young person’s cognitive and learning profile. It is designed to identify patterns of strength and difficulty across key areas that underpin academic progress, helping to inform targeted support and educational planning.

Our process
The assessment uses the DPORT framework alongside additional standardised tools to explore areas such as verbal reasoning, non-verbal reasoning, working memory, processing speed, and foundational literacy and numeracy skills. Information is gathered in a structured, supportive setting and interpreted in the context of the young person’s educational history and current needs.
After the Assessment
Following the assessment, families receive a comprehensive report outlining the young person’s cognitive and learning profile, with clear identification of strengths and areas of need. Practical, evidence-informed recommendations are provided to guide teaching strategies, classroom support, and next steps — including whether further specialist assessment may be beneficial.

Working With Families and Professionals
“The team worked together seamlessly and we felt supported throughout. It never felt rushed or impersonal. The focus on our child’s strengths as well as their needs was reassuring, and the outcomes have been genuinely helpful in moving forward.”
“The assessment and report from Live to Learn were exceptionally clear and practical. The recommendations were specific, realistic, and easy to translate into provision within school. Having the educational context so carefully considered made a real difference.”
“From the very beginning, the process felt thoughtful and well coordinated. The assessment was thorough, but what stood out most was how clearly everything was explained. The report gave us real clarity and helped us understand not just the diagnosis, but what support would actually help our child in school and day-to-day life.”
